Featured Design Idea: Pathways
There are a number of ways to enhance and beautify a garden without spending a lot of money. Creating paths can be both practical and visually pleasing. While some paths create a feeling of welcome into a garden space, providing access to the planted areas, other paths are good for keeping the mud out of the house. A path should be level and easy to walk on. Other possible places to consider a path would be in an area that has a lot of foot traffic - from the driveway to the front door, through a lawn to the hot tub, on the side of the house, where the trash cans live. DESIGN IDEAS
PATHWAYS - MATERIALS
- Stone - sandstone, slate, quartzite - with grass or ground covers in between.
- Blue Pathway Fines - or decomposed granite - compacts into a durable surface for walking, dogs, or rolling heavy trash cans. Stays clean and easy to create a smooth, level surface.
- Gold Path Fines - same as above, compacts into a hard surface, but tan in color.
- Gravel - loose, 1/4 inch gravel, with various colors depending of type of gravel used.
- Mulch - to cover the soil and create a clean, temporary walkway.
AVOID: Using cheap concrete stepping stones, or small stones in general which do not create a substantial walkway and often become uneven over time.
